ANGUILLA--Premier Cora Richardson Hodge attended 113th ECCB Monetary Council Meeting in the Commonwealth of Dominica. The meeting brought together leaders and representatives from across the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) to review the region’s monetary, credit and financial conditions, while discussing policies that promote economic stability, sustainable growth and regional resilience.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the unveiling of the new EC$10 note by Premier Cora Richardson Hodge that features James Ronald Webster, Father of the Nation and the first Chief Minister. During the ceremony, ECCB Governor Timothy N. J. Antoine recognised Webster's pivotal role in the Anguilla Revolution and his enduring legacy in shaping the island's democracy and identity. “James Ronald Webster led the Anguilla Revolution and became the island's first Chief Minister- revered as the Father of the Nation,” Governor Antoine said. “Webster's steadfast pursuit of self-determination helped shape modern Anguilla while affirming the importance of democratic governance and national identity within the Eastern Caribbean.”
The new banknotes incorporate enhanced security features, improved durability, and modern designs celebrating the history and distinguished leaders of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.
At the Monetary Council meeting in 2023 it was decided to replace the image of the late Queen Elizabeth II and feature national heroes and nation builders. The new $100 banknote features Sir William Arthur Lewis (Nobel Prize for Economics, 1979), and Sir John George Melvin Compton(StLucia);the $50 banknote features former Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (1989–2015), Dwight Venner, and Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw (St Kitts and Nevis); the $20 banknote features Sir Vere Cornwall Bird Snr (Antigua and Barbuda) and Dame Mary Eugenia Charles (Commonwealth of Dominica); the $10 banknote features William Henry Bramble (Montserrat) and James Ronald Webster; and the $5 banknote features Robert Milton Cato (St Vincent and the Grenadines) and Sir Kirani James, (Grenada).
The chairmanship of the Monetary Council was transferred from Gaston Browne, Council Member for Antigua and Barbuda to Irving McIntyre Council Member for Dominica. The official Handing over Ceremony took place on July 9 at the Trafalgar Ballroom of the Inter- Continental Dominica Cabrits Resort.
