PHILIPSBURG--Recovery Home care Assistance’s second annual summer camp grew from 11 participants last year to 60 this year, bringing seniors together for a week of activities that included island tours, an Anguilla day trip, grooming and a closing dinner and dance.
The summer camp opened with a meet and greet in the garden, where the week began with a prayer and a surprise guest speaker. Participants also took part in arts and crafts and games.
The second day featured an island tour, including lunch and a snack stop. The third day was Anguilla Day, with participants travelling to Anguilla for a tour of the island and lunch at the beach.
The fourth day was makeover day, with facials and makeup for the women and barber services for the men. During the summer camp, a visit was also made to the White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation (WYCCF). The week ended with a garden party, followed by a dinner and dance at Tropix Grand Case.
Transportation was provided from St. Peters as the meeting point, while breakfast was served daily in the garden. The fee for the week was US $100.
Emilia Hughes of Recovery Home care Assistance said the camp was “a week to remember” and thanked the sponsors on St. Maarten and Anguilla, as well as individuals who contributed anonymously.
“Special thanks to God, for His intervention all week,” Hughes said. She also thanked Elektra for the T-shirts and bags and repeatedly mentioning the summer camp on her show, member of Parliament (MP) Darryl York and former Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (VSA) Richinel Brug.
Brug had been scheduled to say a few words at the opening of the week, but according to Hughes, he instead spent the entire week serving and making sure everyone was happy.
Hughes also thanked Sac Pasè Barber Shop for grooming the men, Andy Doran for moving the camp’s belongings, and the other individuals and sponsors who contributed to the week, including Accessible Ventures staffers, whom she said went beyond their duty to assist.
The summer camp ended with the dinner and dance at Tropix Grand Case, which Hughes described as ending the week “with a Blast.”
“Every day was a highlight, from start to finish,” Hughes said.
