SYNOPSIS:
A weak Atlantic high-pressure system is supporting mostly light winds and a stable atmosphere across the region. Meanwhile, lighter concentrations of Saharan dust will affect air quality and visibility. Persons with allergies and/or respiratory illnesses should be vigilant.
Slight to moderate seas are predicted to peak at 5 feet during the next few days.
STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to moderate
WAVES/SWELLS: 3 to 5 feet
SPECIAL FEATURES: Showers and thunderstorms associated with a broad area of low pressure located several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles have changed little in organization this morning. This system can develop into a tropical depression over the next few days, as it moves slowly west-northwestward. Its center is projected to pass at a safe distance from the island late Friday into Saturday, causing minimal impacts to the island.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this system and update the public accordingly.
Additionally, Tropical Depression Five further developed into Tropical Storm Danielle at 11:00am this morning in the Northern Atlantic and poses no threat to St. Maarten.
