“Préfet Serge Gouteyron and staff of the Préfecture feel the pain and sadness the family and relatives of Georgina Rohan are experiencing after losing a loved one who was held in such high esteem,” the Préfecture’s statement read. “Georgina Rohan was an iconic figure in French Quarter who dedicated her life from an early age to the service of the most vulnerable youth of the territory, in particular through the work of her association ‘Les Explorateurs’.

“For more than 50 years, this great lady listened and helped the most fragile of people. Known as a strong woman and endowed with great generosity, she knew how to convey compassion and transmit the moral values of dignity and honour. As a role model in our St. Martin society, she will be greatly missed.”

A statement was also issued by the Collectivité: “The President of the Territorial Council, Daniel Gibbs, elected officials and staff of the Collectivité send their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Georgina Rohan. French Quarter and our entire community have lost a great ambassador of the St. Martin spirit. Her constant investment over several decades in the service of St. Martin’s youth is a testament to her greatness of spirit.

“The young scouts of St. Martin were built on her counselling and benevolence. Mama Georgina accompanied them on the path of tolerance and fundamental values of sharing and mutual aid. She was a model, an example to follow.

“On behalf of the Collectivité and the population, we retain warm memories of her and an immense gratitude. She will remain in our hearts forever. Rest in peace Mama Georgina.”
