Paws in Flight programme partnered up with the Princess Juliana International Airport and welcomed puppies, Asher, Theo and Felix during their visit at the airport last Thursday. These pups are available for adoption by reaching out to SXM Paws.
SIMPSON BAY--Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), in partnership with SXM Paws, welcomed three rescued puppies to the airport as part of its Paws in Flight Saturday initiative. Asher, Theo and Felix, who are currently available for adoption, visited the airport on September 24. During their visit, the puppies attracted attention from passengers and members of the KLM cabin crew, who spent time meeting and interacting with them before departure.
The initiative forms part of a wider collaboration between PJIA and SXM Paws to help rescued dogs from St. Maarten reach adoptive families abroad by connecting them with flights, volunteers and travelling companions. According to PJIA, more than 100 puppies and rescued dogs have been transported through the airport over the past year as part of overseas adoption and relocation efforts.
SXM Paws relies on volunteers, foster families, donations and community support to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray and abandoned dogs. Once a suitable home has been found abroad, air transportation is one of the final steps in getting the animal to its new family.
Through Paws in Flight Saturday, PJIA and SXM Paws aim to raise awareness of the adoption programme and the different ways members of the public can support the organisation, including through adoption, fostering, volunteering, donations or serving as a flight companion for a rescued dog.
The visit by Asher, Theo and Felix also gave passengers and airline crews an opportunity to learn more about the programme and the dogs still awaiting adoption. Information on adopting, fostering, volunteering or donating is available through SXM Paws at www.sxmpaws.com.
