The new Holistic Healing Center.
PHILIPSBURG--A new Holistic Healing Center (HHC) will officially open its doors in Philipsburg on Saturday, August 1, with the aim of supporting individuals, families and communities through trauma-informed healing and preventive care.
Founded by Dr. Simply Ann, the centre was established after years of witnessing what it described as growing emotional, mental, family and social challenges affecting every sector of society.
According to a press release, the centre was created to address what it says is a gap between existing support services by providing a safe, confidential and trauma-informed environment where individuals, couples, families, children and youth can begin the healing process before emotional pain develops into crisis.
Working from a holistic approach, the centre focuses on healing the body, soul and spirit while promoting emotional wellness, resilience, healthy relationships and personal growth.
The Holistic Healing Center is not intended to replace existing services, but to work alongside medical doctors, mental health professionals, schools, government ministries, probation and judicial services, the Police Department, Victim Support Services, Safe Haven Foundation, Foster Care Services, youth organisations, churches, community non-governmental organisations (NGOs), rehabilitation and reintegration programmes, and funeral homes and grief support services.
The grand opening will bring together leaders from both the Dutch and French sides of the island, healthcare professionals, government representatives, justice partners, churches, educators, social organisations and other community stakeholders.
The centre is also inviting government, businesses, foundations, churches, healthcare providers, community organisations and private citizens to partner in its work through collaboration, sponsorships, volunteer services and financial support.
Its long-term vision includes advocating for counselling, trauma-informed services and preventive care to become more accessible through insurance providers and public support, while expanding the model by establishing additional Holistic Healing Centers throughout the Caribbean.
The multidisciplinary team includes psychologists, Certified Christian Mental Health Coaches, trauma specialists, family and marriage coaches, youth mentors, community support professionals, certified facilitators and experienced volunteers. Together, they will provide counselling, coaching, support groups, family restoration programmes, youth interventions, trauma-informed education, leadership development and community outreach.
According to the release, the Centre’s philosophy is simple: “Heal the mind. Restore the family. Transform the community.”
