MARIGOT--Following the Security and National Defence Council meeting on January 29, the French government decided, by decree of January 30, to strengthen the criteria necessary for travel to and from the overseas territories.
For the territories of St. Barthélemy and St. Martin, only compelling reasons for travel to or from these two territories are permitted. The three reasons are: urgent personal or family reasons, a health care emergency, or a professional work reason that cannot be postponed.
A declaration of honour, as well as one or more documents proving compelling reasons to travel, must be presented at the time of boarding. The presentation of a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test performed within 72 hours of travelling remains required for flights to Guadeloupe – including transit flights.
For flights to and from Guadeloupe and Martinique, presentation of a negative PCR test performed within 72 hours of travelling and a compelling reason must be presented.
Since January 16, flights between Grand Case and Rémi de Haenen (St. Barths) airports to and from Pointe-à-Pitre, including transit, must be justified with a compelling reason and requires the presentation of a negative PCR test performed within 72 hours of travelling.
For flights to and from metropolitan France, the requirement is to present a negative PCR test result performed within 72 hours of travelling, and to justify a compelling reason. This has been in effect since Tuesday, February 2. Thus, as of February 2, all travel between metropolitan France and St. Martin and St. Barthélemy must be justified by a compelling reason in addition to the negative PCR test result.
For travel from metropolitan France to St. Martin and St. Barthélemy, a declaration of commitment to carry out a seven-day self-isolation period must also be presented.
People currently on holiday in St. Martin and St. Barths will be able to return home without worries, as returning home falls under the category of a compelling personal reason.
Travellers using air and sea transport from territories outside the European Union (EU) to St. Barthélemy need to present a negative PCR test result performed within 72 hours of travelling and justify a compelling reason for travel, as of Tuesday, February 2, 2021. These restrictions also apply to maritime transport to Gustavia.
From February 2, for air and sea transport between St. Barthélemy and St. Martin, a compelling reason for travel must be presented as well as a recommended negative PCR test performed within 72 hours of travelling for stays longer than three days. These restrictions also apply to sea transport between Marigot and Gustavia.
