Archie
SABA--A German shepherd named Archie, whose disappearance aboard a sailboat had sparked concern across the North Islands, has been found safe on Saba.
Archie's whereabouts had remained unknown for several days after the sailboat on which he was travelling disappeared from its mooring in the Bay of Corossol in Saint-Barthélemy on August 12.
The disappearance prompted a search and an outpouring of support from residents and online animal communities across the region. Questions remained over whether Archie had jumped into the water, been taken ashore or ended up on another island.
The mystery was solved on Monday, August 17, when local fishermen reported a vessel stranded on rocks near the All Too Far Trail, between the former sulphur mine and Diamond Rock on Saba.
According to the Public Entity Saba, the island's Search and Rescue (SAR) team responded after being alerted and discovered that the vessel was unoccupied, except for Archie.
The dog was safely brought ashore and is now receiving care.
The news brought relief to Archie's owner and the many people who had followed the search and shared appeals for information about the missing dog and sailboat.
Saba authorities subsequently contacted Archie's owner to arrange for the dog to be safely returned.
Although the sailboat was lost, Archie's safe discovery brought a happy ending to several anxious days for his owner and supporters across the North Islands.
