Wetlands Around Me is a new bilingual colouring book and nature journal. It features 33 plants and animals from St. Martin’s wetlands.

FRENCH QUARTER--Amuseum Naturalis will host a free Migratory Bird Festival on Saturday, October 10, from 9:00am to noon, featuring the launch of a new bilingual children’s nature book, Wetlands Around Me.

The festival will take place at Amuseum Naturalis at The Old House in French Quarter. The book will be available free of charge while supplies last, and children can use copies at a colouring station during the event.

Visitors can also take part in crafts and bird-themed games in the museum’s gardens, as well as explore the museum’s exhibits and grounds.

“We’re super excited to host the Migratory Bird Festival!” said Les Fruits de Mer association President Jenn Yerkes. “It’s also the perfect time to launch this fantastic new book, since many of our migratory birds live in wetlands and depend on our wetland plants and animals.”

Wetlands Around Me, part of the Around Me series, is bilingual in English and French. It also serves as a nature journal, allowing children to record observations and draw plants and animals found on St. Martin.

Free copies distributed at the festival were funded by the State and Collectivité of Saint-Martin through the Politique de la Ville programme.

Festival activities include BirdSleuth Caribbean’s Bird Bingo and Bird Habitat Scavenger Hunt. The activities have been adapted for the Caribbean and feature local birds and nature.

A craft station will also allow children and adults to decorate a migratory bird-themed wooden box. Participants can place native tree seeds inside to take home and plant. Native trees provide food and shelter for migratory and resident birds.

The festival is sponsored by Delta Petroleum and supported by the Politique de la Ville de Saint-Martin.

Wetlands Around Me was produced with support from the Collectivité de Saint-Martin and the Agence nationale de la cohésion des territoires. The book project and family event are supported by the Politique de la Ville de Saint-Martin, implemented by the State and Collectivité de Saint-Martin.

The book is also available for purchase online and as a free download through Les Fruits de Mer
