ST. EUSTATIUS--The Lions Club of St. Eustatius welcomed District Governor Lion Hyacinth Jeremiah of Lions District 60B, a Melvin Jones Fellow (MJF), to the island on Sunday, October 4, for an official “get to know the club” audit. He was warmly greeted at the F.D. Roosevelt Airport by Lions Club of St. Eustatius President Cherile van Putten MJF and her fellow Lions. He attended a church service at Jeems Methodist Church in honour of World Lions Day, which is celebrated on October 8, and thereafter proceeded to the Lions Den for a Caribbean breakfast.
The breakfast provided an opportunity for fellowship and conversation with the District Governor. After breakfast, members of the Lions Club introduced themselves to the District Governor and shared the various positions and responsibilities they hold within the Club. The Lions then held an official meeting with the District Governor. During the meeting, District Governor Jeremiah engaged the members, asking a number of questions
about the Club, its activities, accomplishments, challenges and plans for the future. The discussion provided an opportunity for the local Club to share its experiences and for the District Governor to offer guidance and encouragement. Discussion points included media coverage to raise awareness about Lionism and the Lions' work, Lions Quest, Lion retention and individual contributions towards Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) causes. Lions participated wholeheartedly in the discussion.
A highlight of the visit was the induction of four new members into the Lions Club of St. Eustatius. The four new members installed were Michelangela Stefania, Raquel Spanner-Carty, Floyd Woodley and Vaughn Sams. They are now officially members of the Club. District Governor Jeremiah officially installed the new members. The induction of the four new members marks an important addition to the St. Eustatius Lions Club and reflects the continued commitment of the organisation to expanding its membership and serving the community. The Lions Club of St. Eustatius extended its appreciation to the District Governor for taking the time to visit.
The new Lions received their official Lions Roar, along with hugs and a warm welcome to the Lions family. A light lunch was served, along with a tour of the Ernest van Putten Youth Centre (Lions Den) and its history, as well as the Club’s unique venture, the hearse. The District Governor then went on a tour around the island before his departure.
The St. Eustatius Lions Club wished the District Governor safe travels and fruitful discussions as he continues his visit to other clubs in District 60B
