PHILIPSBURG--Lottery operators in St Maarten could be prohibited from selling tickets to minors, people suspected of being at risk of gambling-related harm, and individuals visibly under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances under a proposed National Ordinance on Gambling.
The draft legislation would introduce additional consumer-protection requirements for lottery operators, including providing accurate information about the risks of participation on their websites and at sales outlets.
Under the proposed rules, lottery tickets could not be sold to anyone under 18, people reasonably suspected of being at risk of harm from excessive gambling or addiction, or people visibly under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances.
Lottery operators would also be required to provide accurate information about the risks associated with participating in their games.
