ANGUILLA--The Government of Anguilla joins the nation in mourning the passing of Carlton Pickering of KCN TV, described as a true pillar of media landscape and a steadfast guardian of the public’s right to know.
A release from the government says, “For generations, Pickering stood at the forefront of local broadcasting, shaping the voice of the press with integrity, courage, and unwavering commitment. He was never one to shy away from the difficult questions; instead, he embraced them by holding ad-ministrations to account and ensuring that the concerns of the Anguillian people were heard, re-spected, and addressed.”
It goes on to comment that his work was more than journalism but a public service.
“He was not only a broadcaster, but a champion of truth and transparency. Pickering’s legacy will endure in the values he upheld and the generations he influenced. We extend our deepest condo-lences to his family, colleagues, and the entire Anguillian community. May his contributions never be forgotten, and may his example continue to guide the future of the press in Anguilla and the region.”
The Department of Education also mourns the death of Pickering who was Education Welfare Of-ficer from 1996 to 2007. He is described as a valuable member of the student support services team. Among his contributions was the introduction of a Savings Club for students and their families, in-spired by traditional community-based saving systems. This initiative reflected his practical approach to support and his understanding of the broader social factors affecting student participation and well-being. Throughout his eleven-year tenure, Pickering also nurtured a deep interest in broadcast-ing, video journalism and media productions.
The release states, “The Department of Education extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Carlton Pickering. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and in his pioneering con-tribution to student support services in Anguilla.”
