Debris collected. MARIGOT--The second clean-up phase from the Grand Case jetty to Grand Case Beach Club began in mid-May and is nearing completion, the Collectivité disclosed. More than 10 tons of zinc sheets, wood, metal and other bulky or miscellaneous items have been collected off shore from Grand Case beach since the beginning of the operation. The clean-up month set in motion by President Daniel Gibbs and his team, brought together the Collectivité and the Port to clean up several public beaches and remove from the seabed many cumbersome objects dangerous for swimmers that were driven into the sea by hurricane winds. The mandated companies JBS and Kuka Diver first carried out a thorough clean-up of Galisbay Beach and the first phase on Grand Case beach (from the cemetery to the first jetty). The next step is to clean up the beaches of Friar's Bay and Orient Bay. The operation is financed by the Collectivité up to 38, 700 euros. The Port of St. Martin has contributed 31, 600 euros for the survey in the Simpson Bay Lagoon and the cleaning of Galisbay Beach.
