St. Maarten News: “The vision the Methodist Agogic Center has had for forty years to offer education from the cradle to the grave is being realized especially this year with the addition of the MAC Comprehensive School. It shows that the school is moving forward much more than we are in government,” said Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs in her opening remarks at the 40th anniversary celebrations at the Sports Auditorium on Thursday morning.

Jacobs – an active member of the Methodist Church recalled that she was living next to the church in Cole Bay and remembered that the kindergarten was at the back of the church; she is close to the MAC School. “I am very proud of the MAC School and what they were able to achieve over the years.”

The minister pointed out that the school will continue to grow in “leaps and bounds” as they try to meet the needs of the community. “The MAC Schools are known for the “extra mile” that they go in their academics; this is evident from the results that they achieve each year. I am aware of the work the teachers do during the weekends and the afternoons to ensure that they are ready for their students.”

Minister Jacobs highlighted the fact the school teaches and promotes local culture and that in every cultural competition that was ever held on the island the school won it or came in second place. In the area of sports the MAC School is always represented and “is always on top,” she said.

“The tomes are challenging socially, economically and politically which plays a role in the level and the extent to which we maintain the vision,” Reverend Moreland Williams said. “To continue with the legacy it calls for serious commitment, dedication, determination, hard work and struggles.”

He commended the faculty and staff that have demonstrated the qualities that are required to foster and promote the founder’s dream. “Because of this the MAC is the noble institution it is today, a household name in the community.”

During a recent open house visitors received a historical perspective of the MAC from the inception to the present time. The theme of the celebrations is ‘Strengthening the cords and strengthening our stakes.’
