St. Maarten – The cooperation between Aruba, the Detective Collaboration Team RST and the Marechaussee is well underway and currently involved in seventeen investigations, Justice Minister Dennis Richardson said yesterday.

The minister said that the joint patrols are effective and will continue for the time being.

Funding has been secured for two important projects by reshuffling the capital investment program: the camera surveillance system that involves efforts from the police and TelEm and the expansion of the prison, a project that has been tendered already in 2013. Liccom has won the bid to execute this project.

The Justice Ministry is also busy with the purchase of the Soremar Building in Cole Bay. This building will house a forensic lab, a shooting range, a training room for self-defense, a compound for confiscated vehicles and space for the K-9 unit.

There is no agreement yet about the BBW building in Sucker Garden. “That is a good location for the justice academy,” Richardson said.
