St. Maarten – The Rotary Club of St. Maarten Mid-Isle has sponsored the Interact Club of the Caribbean International Academy (CIA). At a recently held meeting the club officially handed over the charter to the new Interact Club. It was established on October 1, 2015.
CIA presently boasts a membership of 38 students. The board consists of President Alice Manley and Celeste Delacombe as Secretary. The two teacher advisors are Danielle and Anik. Rotary advisors are President David Antrobus and Jeffery DelaCombe. Jon Hart is the New Generations Chair for Mid-Isle.
The Interact Club of CIA will be helping out the Interact Club of St. Dominic’s, which is also sponsored by Mid-Isle, in a fundraising project at Klass Electronics and Super Plaza, where they will be gift wrapping items. This event is scheduled for this upcoming weekend – Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Interact Club is for young people ages 12-18 who want to join together to tackle issues in their community that they care most about. Through Interact, they can carry out hands-on service projects, make international connections and develop leadership skills besides having fun. Service projects are an effective way for Interactors to take action at home and abroad, and to connect with other young leaders.
Every Interact Club carries out two service projects a year: one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding.
Clubs meet at least twice monthly and are sponsored by their local Rotary Club that provides support and guidance.
