St. Maarten News – For the first time in Carnival’s history an African Flavor night has been included in the calendar. To match this historic event, organizers are bringing one of Africa’s musical superstars, Bracket who gave the world the mega-hit Yori Yori.
“Bracket of Yori Yori fame will be performing live and direct from Africa at the Festival Village on April 26th,” said Melissa Webster, president of the African Flavor foundation. “We are all very excited about this for many reasons. Bracket is coming with his full band out of Africa and has promised a night to remember.”
The African Flavor night is going to be a unique experience for everyone who attends the show, Webster added. “We will be going straight from African Flavor into J’Ouvert morning.”
Also appearing on the show will be Trinidad’s Benjai who rocked the region last year with his hit song, Phenomenal.
Our very own Oswald, who’s currently working and living in France, will be flying in especially for the show and joining him will be Roxxy and Exodus out of Anguilla. Also performing on the show is the dance group Nirvana and one of St. Maarten’s very popular calypsonians King T-MO, the reigning Soca Groovy Monarch. They will be backed up by Fred York and his Musicology band.
Another major feature of the African Flavor concert is that everyone who purchases a ticket will be eligible to participate in a raffle draw with the spectacular grand prize of round trip airline tickets for two to Nigeria.
“When we say we’re offering a unique experience, we mean just that,” said event coordinator Ursel Biabiany-Gumbs. “Buying a ticket to the African Flavor concert is not only about going to a fantastic show, but also about the chance to win fabulous prizes, throughout our promotional campaign. You have to be in the Village at the time of the raffle to win the prizes, otherwise another winner will be drawn.”
Biabiany said that only purchased tickets be part of the raffle, not complementary tickets.
“There are a limited amount of Early Bird tickets that will go on sale for a very short period of time from today until February 29 for $25,” she added. “The regular tickets will cost $40 each and $45 on the day of the show.”
Ticket outlets are: Adolphus Richardson on the Pondfill Road, Ikemba African Gallery on Front Street, Van Dorp in Madame Estate and Simpson Bay and the Artsen gas station in Marigot.
