St. Maarten – Attorney Cor Merx filed an administrative lawsuit yesterday against the decision by Prime Minister Marcel Gumbs to refuse airport managing director Regina Labega a certificate of no objection. Such a certificate is required for Labega to keep her position of confidence as the managing director of the airport. PM Gumbs refused to issue it based on the findings of the national security service VDSM in the screening process.

Merx asks the court to deal in urgent summary proceedings with his request to suspend the execution of the decision by the prime minister.

“I have substantiated my request with the statement from Justice Minister Dennis Richardson made to the Today Newspaper that nothing happens with my clients position until her appeal against the screening report has been handled,” Merx said yesterday.

The attorney expects that the case will come to court in the beginning of November, since the effect of the prime minister’s decision could affect his client some time during that same month.
