PHILIPSBURG:— This weekend, Friday, May 28 & Saturday, 29, the annual SXM DOET projects are scheduled to take place. Due to the rising covid-19 numbers, the SXM DOET team is asking all participating organizations to re-assess if their project(s) can be executed in a safe manner.

Today, Tuesday, all organizations will receive a set of new regulations that they must enforce during SXM DOET at all project locations. Participating organizations can also choose to postpone their project until a later date in 2021, should they not feel confident in organizing their project(s) safely. If projects cannot adhere to the new regulations, they will be canceled.

Some of the regulations for projects participating on May 28 & 29 include that all projects must be conducted outdoors, must have enough space per participant to allow for 1.5 meters of social distancing, all persons on the project location will be registered upon arrival, tools should not be shared or disinfected before sharing, etc. The guidelines are also available on www.sxmdoet.com.

Volunteers are reminded to take responsibility for their own and others’ health as well. This included ensuring that they use best practices during projects, i.e. wear a mask at all times, social distance, disinfect frequently, and stay at home if they have any symptoms (such as dry cough, fever, headache, etc) or have been in contact with someone with COVID in the past 14 days. If any volunteers do not feel comfortable participating during SXM DOET this weekend but have registered, the SXM DOET team kindly asks that they let the project’s contact person know. Some projects will require volunteers to be vaccinated or tested – which the SXM DOET team fully supports.

SXM DOET team: “We urge all participating organizations and volunteers to do their part in facilitating safe community projects. Let’s work together towards creating a fun and safe SXM DOET whether you opt to participate this weekend or later this year.”
