PHILIPSBURG:— On Friday, April 30th, 2021 Funtopia Youth Initiative Foundation will be bringing Philipsburg alive with a public display from the Soualiguan Giants Moko Jumbie tribe and the Furious Fire Fury Fire dancers. The showcase will take place between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm along the boardwalk promenade.

The display will start from Walter Plantz and head down towards Greenhouse restaurant and back up. Along the route, the performers will make stops to perform their routines. We have identified a few locations we will like the group to perform at Greenhouse bar and restaurant, Blue Bitch bar and restaurant, Holland house, Dutch blonde, and Walter Plantz.

Funtopia youth initiative has been training teenagers and young adults to stilt walk and fire breath since 2014. In January of this year, new members join the foundation and have been training in different disciplines. Friday, April 30th would have been our carnival’s Grand parade day, which is usually the opportunity most members get to participate in the various troupe. The general public is welcome to view the display. Face masks are required if the viewer would like to take pictures and videos of the performers.

The foundation is also taking this opportunity to raise funds by having present colorfully painted tip pans along the boardwalk. All financial contributions will go towards the funding of the 1st annual Afropunk moko Jumbie festival scheduled to be held in July of this year.
