Students at the College's School of Business & Accounting receive accolade for second consecutive year
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y./PHILIPSBURG:---Monroe College, a national leader in educating urban and international students, today announced that its National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) student chapter won first place at the NABA New York Fall Case Study competition on Dec. 8. This was the second consecutive year that the College’s team earned the top award.
The annual event, sponsored by ”Big Four” accounting firm Deloitte and hosted at its headquarters in New York City, provides a competitive forum for students to showcase their qualitative, quantitative, and communication skills. During the competition, participating teams are given a real-world business challenge with business and accounting implications. They must then develop and present strategic response recommendations before a panel of judges.
The five members from the College’s winning NABA team are students in its School of Business and Accounting. They are:
• Chantel Bunting, team captain (Kingston, Jamaica)
• Camara Fatoumata (Conakry, Guinea)
• Deonje Lawrence (Basseterre, St. Kitts)
• Parina Lotlikar (Philipsburg, St. Maarten)
• Safiya Quamina (Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines)
“We are extraordinarily proud of our team for their terrific performance at this prestigious event for the business and accounting leaders of tomorrow,” said Stacy Crawford, Ed. D, faculty advisor to the College’s NABA student chapter and the Director of Business Programs on its School of Business and Accounting’s New Rochelle campus. “The competition was very impressive this year, and we commend the other teams for their incredible work and compelling presentations.”
Dawn Lezon, Director of Accounting for the College, added: “Monroe is deeply committed to providing its students with the knowledge, real-world experience, and technical skills that truly help them start their careers on the right foot. Membership in NABA affords them invaluable personal and professional development opportunities, which is why we have proudly hosted a student chapter on campus since 1996.”
The NABA New York Fall Case Study competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students with a 3.3 GPA or higher who are active members of a NABA student chapter. The top three teams received cash prizes in recognition of their work and will be honored at the NABA NY Annual Scholarship & Awards Gala in the spring. Additionally, all case study participants will be eligible to interview for an internship or mentorship program with Deloitte.
