PHILIPSBURG:--- On Wednesday August 22nd in the evening and Thursday August 23rd 2018 a false statement circulated on Social Media regarding immigration raids. This statement is stating falsely that it is coming from the desk of the Minister of Justice, and it is outlining that joint immigration controls will be conducted throughout the island.
This statement is false, malicious and is labeled as Fake News. At no time did the Ministry of Justice nor the Police Department, Immigration and Border Protection Services, Customs Department or VKS release such a statement regarding immigration controls. The Minister of Justice the honorable Cornelius De Weever is well aware of this situation and stated that this statement should be ignored.
The Police Department is looking into the matter to locate the origin of this statement and the person(s) that are responsible for maliciously spreading this false information.
