Career and Study Fair on November 4
GREAT BAY – The St. Maarten Career & Study Fair Committee is finalizing the preparations for the annual Career & Study Fair, scheduled for Wednesday, November 4 at the Belair Community Center. Its theme is “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
Pre-exam and exam students from all secondary schools on the island will be accommodated from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. The fair will be open to the public from 3 to 6 p.m.
Participating colleges and university representatives from the region, Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire, the United States, Canada and Holland will be on hand to share information about their academic institutions and services.
“Since studying in the region is being promoted by all islands of the former Netherlands Antilles, the committee is happy to have the colleges/universities from Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire fully on board,” the organization said in a press statement. “In addition, local educational institutions such as the University of St. Martin, representatives from the study financing division and student support services will be in attendance to provide information.”
Study Financing from Holland (DUO) will be present to share updates about the recent changes pertaining to revised education developments in Holland. For students planning to pursue their education in Holland on their own (“free movers”), My Future Career, a guidance organization based in Curacao and NNAM N.V., an Dutch insurance company will be present to assist them.
Various public safety and security organizations will participate in the fair. These entities include the Coast Guard, Customs and the Fire Department. They will provide information to individuals that are interested in joining their respective forces.
Representatives of companies that are prevalent in the local tourism industry such as the airport, Winair, the Harbor Group of Companies and the Tourist Bureau will present information about their companies, and about the opportunities that are available for students who are interested in obtaining a job after high school.
Another aspect of the Career Fair will feature medical organizations which will endow attendees with information. These establishments include the St. Maarten Medical Center, Mental Health Foundation, Sociale Ziektekosten Verzekering (SZV), and St. Maarten White and Yellow Cross’ District Nursing and Baby Clinic, Nagico Insurances and NNAM N.V.
Other local businesses and organizations at the fair are TelEm, UTS, Gebe and SHTA.
“The Committee is grateful for the financial institutions, companies and colleges that have confirmed their participation in this event,” the organization said inn its press statement. “The information that will be disseminated will be helpful to not only the youth of Country St. Maarten, but to anyone who would like to further their education, when deciding what their next step in life would be. Attendees are encouraged to use this opportunity to obtain more information on a particular career they might be interested in.”
This annual event promises to be very informative and will serve to support the decision-making process in furthering one’s education and or career path.
The general public is invited to come out and benefit from the information and advice that will be made available. We encouraged especially parents/guardians to visit the fair.
The fair will be open from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.
