SINT MAARTEN (SIMPSON BAY-AIRPORT) – The Pre-works for PJIA’s Terminal Reconstruction, including mold remediation, demolition and waste disposal, is poised to be completed in the next three weeks.

The contractor has removed all of the mold infested material and environmentally disposed of it off the island. Immediately after the area is cleaned and remediated, PJIAE plans to start with the construction of temporary airline offices.

Over the past six months, PJIAE’s project department worked in collaboration with all stakeholders to plan and design the temporary airline offices in such a manner that it would not affect the package 2 terminal reconstruction project. The objective of this needed project is to provide the airline workers with a better work environment, enhanced safety, and an improved workplace.

The extensive cleanup of the new location was executed by an experienced contractor and a team of more than 60 local workers, who have been trained in the proper handling of mold.

All the necessary precautionary measures have been taken to ensure that the new temporary office locations are free of any contaminants that could pose a health issue for the staff.

The remediated areas are being tested by an independent international lab, and a report certifying that the air and surfaces are mold free, is expected to be issued. The construction of the new airline offices is expected to finish before May 1st, 2021.
