SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) — The Rotary Club of Sint Maarten Mid Isle proudly hosted its annual Ramesh Manek End Polio Now Walkathon on Saturday, October 24th, in observance of World Polio Day. The event brought together approximately 80 participants.
Walkathon participants received commemorative End Polio Now T-shirts with their ticket purchase and were treated to a delicious local breakfast, generously sponsored by Mid Isle Rotarians.
“Today, we walk not only for fitness and fellowship, but for a cause that unites Rotarians around the world: the eradication of polio,” said President Grace Linger.” Through your participation and support, you are helping Rotary continue its mission to ensure that no child suffers from this preventable disease.”
All proceeds from the walkathon will be donated to PolioPlus, Rotary International’s flagship program, to end polio. Thanks to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s 2-to-1 match, every dollar raised will be tripled, amplifying the impact of each contribution.
Polio remains endemic in only two countries—Pakistan and Afghanistan—where challenging health systems and security concerns make vaccination efforts difficult. Funds raised not only support vaccine distribution but also cover essential logistics such as transportation and equipment.
A heartfelt thank you to all Rotarians, Interactors, participants, volunteers, and supporters whose dedication and enthusiasm made this year's Ramesh Manek End Polio Now Walkathon a tremendous success.
As the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle continues its commitment to Rotary's global mission to eradicate polio, we are deeply grateful for the community's ongoing support and partnership in helping create a polio-free world.
