SINT MAARTEN (MULLET BAY) - The St. Maarten Golf Association (SMGA) proudly represented the island with a qualified team of 12 players at the annual Eastern Caribbean Golf Association’s tournament held in Anguilla. This prestigious event brought together competitors from 11 countries with 132 players and took place on October 10th and 11th, 2026, at the Aurora Golf Resort.
The team included a diverse group of players: three ladies, four men, three senior men, and two super-senior men. The opening ceremony was hosted by the Governor of Anguilla, featuring welcoming speeches and a formal presentation of each team member.
Over two days, the tournament showcased intensive competitive golf. On Sunday evening, the final ceremony celebrated the achievements of all participants. St. Maarten Team won 2nd low net, which was an unexpected welcoming achievement while the women’s ladies team consisting of Marie Gibbons, Anne-Marie Bouille and Jenni Marzi won Ladies 2nd low net in their division, and were honored with medals for their outstanding performance.
All the countries commended Anguilla Golf Association and the Aurora Golf Course for the planning, course preparation, communication, and hospitality, which was of the highest standard. The tournament ran seamlessly from start to finish, and the members who participated thoroughly enjoyed the competitive yet friendly atmosphere that the ECGA consistently fosters.
Tournaments of this caliber do a great deal to advance the sport of golf in the region and strengthen the bonds between member clubs/associations.
The team returned to St. Maarten on Monday, tired but unanimously grateful for the opportunity. They described the tournament as a wonderful experience and are already looking forward to next year’s event at a new venue and location.
