SINT MAARTEN (BELAIR) - The Sint Maarten Institute for Public Policy Studies (SIPPS) announces the closing ceremony of its Commemoration and Awareness Campaign on Dutch‑colonial enslavement, to be held on August 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Belair Community Center.

This campaign has engaged students, educators, researchers, and community members in a reflection on the historical and contemporary impacts of Dutch‑colonial enslavement on the people of Sint Maarten. As part of the closing program, SIPPS will recognize and award secondary school students for their outstanding contributions, including position papers that enriched and advanced the national dialogue.

Reflecting on the insights generated throughout the campaign, SIPPS will present a structured conceptual framework outlining a self‑reliant pathway toward reparatory justice for harms under Dutch colonial rule. This framework is designed to support evidence‑based policymaking, academic inquiry, and community‑driven action.

The evening will further feature a slave‑emancipation enactment and dance recital, offering a cultural and historical reflection on the themes explored during the campaign. SIPPS invites the public to attend this important event and join the ongoing national conversation on historical justice, restoration, and collective empowerment.

All are welcome.
