SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - The Rotary Club of Sint Maarten–Mid Isle successfully hosted two vibrant editions of its Reading Under a Tree initiative on September 12 and September 18, bringing children together for an enriching outdoor reading experience designed to spark imagination, curiosity, and a love for books.
Held in natural, open-air settings, the events encouraged over ninety children to step away from screens and reconnect with the simple joy of reading. Surrounded by fresh air and the shade of trees, students immersed themselves in stories, allowing their imaginations to paint the scenes rather than relying on digital visuals.
Across both dates, children participated in guided reading sessions, storytelling circles, singing and dancing that helped them explore characters, themes, and ideas. Rotarians, volunteers, educators and veteran educators were present to support the young readers and create a warm, welcoming environment.
The Rotary Club of Sint Maarten–Mid Isle remains committed to promoting literacy, fostering creativity, and encouraging healthy outdoor engagement among the youth of Sint Maarten.
The club extends heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Bernadine Van Veen- Richardson, Ms. Irene Hodge, Ms. Lila Richardson, Ms. Yvette Richardson, the Sucker Garden Community Minded Leaders Foundation, SECDA, Tony's Air Conditioning, Didier Peterson, REMA Consultants, all students, parents, volunteers, and Rotarians who contributed to the success of these events.
