SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Philipsburg Broadcasting Network (PBN) proudly celebrates 33 years of broadcasting, marking more than three decades of informing, entertaining, and connecting the people of Sint Maarten. From its early beginnings to its growth into a network of five radio stations, PBN has become an important part of the island’s media landscape, building a reputation for quality programming, community engagement, and a steadfast commitment to its listeners.
Today, PBN operates five radio stations, each serving its own audience and contributing to the diversity of broadcasting on the island:
- LASER 101.1 - Top 40 Hit Radio.
- OASIS 96.3 - The softer side of St. Maarten.
- Mix 94.7 – Hit music classics and news.
- Tropixx 105.5 – All Caribbean music station.
- Inspire 106.3 - Soul-stirring gospel.
Together, these stations provide a broad range of programming, bringing music, information, entertainment, and discussion to listeners across Sint Maarten. Through the years, PBS has continued to adapt to changing audiences and broadcasting trends while maintaining the personal connection that has defined its presence in the community.
33 Years of Serving the Community
For more than three decades, PBN has been more than a broadcasting company. It has been a familiar and trusted presence in homes, businesses, and communities throughout Sint Maarten.
The importance of this connection has been particularly evident during some of the island’s most challenging periods, including Hurricanes Luis in 1995 and Irma in 2017. During these devastating storms, PBS played a vital role in keeping residents informed before, during, and after the hurricanes, providing weather updates, emergency advisories, and essential information about relief efforts and available services.
When traditional communication channels were disrupted, radio became a critical lifeline, and PBN remained committed to providing timely information and reassurance to the community.
Beyond times of crisis, the company’s stations have continued to serve as platforms for entertainment, public awareness, community discussion, and the exchange of ideas. This commitment to serving the public has been central to PBN’s identity and its continued success.
Recognizing More Than Two Decades of Leadership
As PBN celebrates this important milestone, the company also takes the opportunity to recognize and express its appreciation to Francis Carty, co-owner and longtime General Manager, for more than 20 years of dedicated leadership and service.
Affectionately known as “Uncle Francis” among PBS staff, Francis Carty has been instrumental in guiding the company’s growth, strengthening its operations, and positioning its stations as important voices within Sint Maarten’s broadcasting landscape.
His vision, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have contributed significantly to the company’s longevity and achievements. Under his management, PBN has expanded its reach, earned numerous awards and recognitions, and continued to serve the community through periods of economic uncertainty, natural disasters, and the evolving challenges of the broadcasting industry.
Maintaining and growing a broadcasting organization on a small island requires determination, adaptability, and a deep understanding of the community it serves. Francis Carty’s leadership has been a driving force behind PBN’s ability to navigate these challenges while remaining committed to its mission.
His contributions extend beyond the management of the company itself. Through his dedication to broadcasting, he has helped strengthen the role of radio as a source of information, public dialogue, and community connection.
Good Morning, Mr. Governor: Informing, Engaging, and Inspiring Change
Among the many programs associated with PBN, Good Morning, Mr. Governor stands out as an example of the important role radio can play in shaping public awareness and encouraging meaningful discussion.
Francis Carty is the voice and driving force behind this well-known segment, which has become recognized for its bold, honest, and thought-provoking commentary on current affairs and issues affecting Sint Maarten.
Through Good Morning, Mr. Governor, important matters have been brought to public attention, difficult questions have been raised, and conversations have been sparked about issues that directly affect the lives of residents.
Over the years, the segment has helped inform and enlighten listeners, encourage accountability, bring people together around shared concerns, and contribute to positive change within the community.
It reflects one of the enduring values of PBN: the belief that broadcasting should do more than entertain. It should also inform, educate, encourage dialogue, and provide a platform for voices and issues that matter.
Building on 33 Years of Success
While this anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the past, it is equally an opportunity to look toward the future.
As the broadcasting industry continues to evolve, PBN recognizes the importance of adapting to new technologies, changing listener preferences, and emerging opportunities in media and communications.
Building on its strong foundation, the company is committed to strengthening its operations, enhancing its programming, exploring new opportunities for growth, and ensuring that its five radio stations continue to meet the needs and expectations of the communities they serve.
The goal is not simply to preserve what has been built over the past 33 years, but to continue improving, innovating, and positioning PBN for many more years of successful broadcasting.
Celebrating the People Who Made It Possible
Reaching 33 years is a significant accomplishment, and PBN recognizes that its success has been made possible through the collective contributions of many individuals.
The company extends its sincere appreciation to its past and present employees, radio personalities, advertisers, business partners, and the many individuals who have supported its growth over the years.
A special thank-you goes to its loyal listeners, whose continued trust, engagement, and support have been at the heart of PBN’s success. Their connection to the stations has helped shape the company into what it is today.
As Philipsburg Broadcasting Network celebrates 33 years, it does so with pride in its accomplishments, gratitude for those who have contributed to its journey, and a renewed commitment to the future. Building on a strong foundation, PBN looks forward to continuing to inform, entertain, connect, and serve the people of Sint Maarten for generations to come.
