SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Member of Parliament (MP) Sjamira Roseburg says she is pleased that the Ministry has confirmed that donations of security cameras from the business community are welcome as part of efforts to improve public safety on Sint Maarten.
Speaking during the Central Committee meeting of September 30, 2026, MP Roseburg said the Ministry's response was encouraging news for the many businesses and residents who want to play an active role in making the country safer.
"I'm happy to hear that the Ministry mentioned that this is something that is welcomed and that donations can take place," MP Roseburg said. She acknowledged the condition the Ministry attached to such donations: businesses may donate equipment, but they cannot use a donation to direct the Minister or the police on where cameras should be placed or which areas should be given priority.
MP Roseburg said this is an understandable safeguard, because decisions on camera placement must stay with the authorities and be based on security needs.
The Minister also said that businesses interested in donating can contact the Ministry directly, including by email. MP Roseburg encouraged business owners who want to contribute to take that step.
"This is an opportunity for the community to also contribute in making Sint Maarten more safe," she said.
MP Roseburg said public safety is a shared responsibility. She added that donations from the private sector can strengthen the work of law enforcement, while the authorities keep full control over how the camera network is planned and run.
