THE NETHERLANDS (THE HAGUE) – Minister Plenipotentiary Drs. Gracita R. Arrindell, recently attended a diplomatic gathering hosted by the Mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen.
The event brought together members of the diplomatic community in The Hague, providing an opportunity for international representatives to engage in an atmosphere that encourages dialogue, mutual understanding, and the strengthening of relationships.
The gathering featured addresses by Mayor Van Zanen and Jos Vranken, President of the Board of Directors of Hotelschool The Hague.
The Hague is internationally recognized as a Centre for peace, justice, diplomacy, and international cooperation. The city hosts numerous embassies, diplomatic missions, the international court, and organizations that contribute to international dialogue and the development of relations between countries.
Mayor Van Zanen has consistently emphasized the importance of maintaining strong connections between the city's international community and its institutions, recognizing the contribution of diplomatic representatives to The Hague's international character.
The participation of Jos Vranken, President of the Board of Directors of Hotelschool The Hague, also brought an important institutional dimension to the occasion.
Hotelschool The Hague is an internationally recognized institution specializing in hospitality management education. Vranken, who assumed his current position in April 2025, previously served in a leadership capacity at the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions, bringing extensive experience in tourism development, international hospitality, and strategic cooperation.
For Sint Maarten, tourism and hospitality remain central pillars of the economy, staying abreast of developments in international education and hospitality is particularly important.
Minister Plenipotentiary Arrindell's attendance provided an opportunity to engage with diplomatic representatives and other participants at an event celebrating The Hague's longstanding tradition of international cooperation and engagement.
As a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sint Maarten maintains an official presence in The Hague through the Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary. The Cabinet represents the country's interests within the Kingdom framework and facilitates contacts with Dutch government institutions, diplomatic representatives, and other organizations.
Participation in diplomatic gatherings forms part of the Cabinet's broader representative responsibilities, providing opportunities to maintain relationships, increase awareness of Sint Maarten, and identify areas of potential mutual interest.
These engagements are particularly valuable for small island countries such as Sint Maarten, where international connections can contribute to knowledge exchange and opportunities in areas including tourism, education, trade, culture, sustainable development, and institutional cooperation.
The Minister Plenipotentiary's continued attendance also underscores the importance of maintaining a visible and active presence in The Hague's diplomatic community. Following an earlier meeting between the Minister Plenipotentiary and Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina and representatives of the hotel school, there is a shared interest in further strengthening the relationship between Sint Maarten and this distinguished institution. Such collaboration could provide Sint Maarten students with access to high-quality education and valuable hands -on experience, equipping them with the skills and expertise to return home and contribute to the continued enhancement of hospitality services for both visitors and residents
Minister Plenipotentiary Arrindell expressed her sincere appreciation to Mayor van Zanen for hosting the gathering and for the opportunity to engage with members of the diplomatic community.
The Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten continues to advance the country's interests in the Netherlands through meaningful engagement and the strengthening of partnership relationships with governmental, diplomatic, educational, and international institutions.
