SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) – Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, Minister Berendsen of Foreign Affairs, Minister Van Weel of Justice and Security and Minister Sjoerdsma of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation will participate in the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA) next week in New York.
The Kingdom delegation also consists of Prime Minister Pisas of Curaçao, Minister Dowers of Aruba and Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (Ministry VSA) Claret Conner of Sint Maarten.
Prime Minister Jetten will be in New York from Tuesday 22 September to Thursday 24 September. On Thursday, he will address the UNGA. The Prime Minister also has various bilateral talks with heads of state and government and attends various side events, including in the field of AI, climate and human rights. In addition, a number of working visits to New York and a dinner with representatives from the Dutch business community are planned.
Minister Berendsen will be in New York from Sunday 20 September to Thursday 24 September. Minister Berendsen has several bilateral talks every day. He also chairs flagship meetings on maritime security and justice for Ukraine.
Berendsen also participates in meetings about the International Criminal Court, MH17 and the two-state solution, among other things. There will also be a meeting of European Union (EU) foreign ministers on the sidelines of the UNGA.
Minister Van Weel will be in New York from Tuesday 22 September to Thursday 24 September for, among other things, the signing of the Cybercrime Convention. This treaty provides a unique legal basis for better international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime. In addition, the minister will hold various bilateral talks and speak at various events, including one in the context of 75 years of the UN Refugee Convention.
Minister Sjoerdsma will be in New York from Sunday evening, September 20 to Thursday, September 24. Among other things, he attends a meeting of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), speaks with UN humanitarian organizations and the Dutch business community, and he participates in a ministerial roundtable discussion on Sudan. In between, he has a series of bilateral conversations with foreign colleagues.
