The Minister of the Interior and Overseas, Gérald Darmanin will be present in Saint-Martin from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 May to sign the new border line between France and the Netherlands at Oyster Pond.
On Wednesday, May 17, during a press conference, the delegate prefect of the Northern Islands, Vincent Berton and the president of the Collectivity, Louis Mussignton announced the forthcoming signing of an agreement which will legally fix the course of the border between Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten at Oyster Pond.
This agreement, which should be officially signed on May 26 between Gérald Darmanin, representing the French State and Sylveria Jacobs, the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, representing the Netherlands, will make it possible to precisely define the border with Sint Maarten, while preserving the freedom of movement established by the Treaty of Concordia of 1648.
“This is excellent news for all Saint-Martin residents, French and Dutch. The issue of the Oyster Pond boundary has raised concerns and questions for a long time. And its resolution will pave the way for a long-awaited economic and urban recovery,” said Louis Mussington. _AF
