GEORGETOWN, GUYANA--The President of the St. Maarten Sports Federation, Naomi Korstanje, and Treasurer Saskia Jones are currently representing Sint Maarten at the 2025 Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) General Assembly and Workshop taking place in Guyana.

The annual meeting, supported by Panam Sports through Olympic Solidarity, brings together sports administrators from across the region to strengthen financial governance, accountability, and collaboration within the Caribbean sports movement. CANOC, which comprises National Olympic Committees, Commonwealth Games Associations, and governing bodies of National Sports Organisations, continues to promote the development and protection of sport and the Olympic movement in the Caribbean. The organisation was officially established in 2003 following years of dialogue among regional sporting bodies that sought a permanent structure to advance sport and establish the Caribbean Games.

This year’s assembly also includes an Olympic Solidarity Finance Seminar, providing regional NOCs with guidance on access to grant-based support for athlete development, coaching, and administration. Delegates are also examining CANOC’s growing initiatives on Safe Sport, gender equity, and the creation of a Caribbean–Africa Sports Alliance aimed at building stronger ties between the two regions.

CANOC continues to lead by example in advancing gender representation in sport leadership, noting that the Caribbean has long embraced women in executive and administrative roles without external regulation. The meeting will also review the ongoing collaboration with the Centre for Sport and Human Rights, reflecting CANOC’s commitment to promoting fairness, inclusion, and protection from discrimination across all levels of sport.

Korstanje and Jones’ participation underscores St. Maarten’s growing active role in regional sports development and its continued commitment to international standards of governance, transparency, and athlete welfare.
