Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles were seen at the end of the runway at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) last Thursday, around 14:40 p.m., gathered around a Sunwing airliner. The aircraft was parked in an unusual location, near the Simpson Bay lagoon.
The captain of WG 764 actually called the air traffic control tower to report that the smoke detector had gone off in one of the plane's lavatories. The plane landed safely about 10 minutes later and was parked remotely.
Rescue and firefighting personnel carried out an inspection of the aircraft, but no anomalies were reported. After the inspection, clearance was granted at 14:43 p.m., and the flight left for Montreal, without further incident, approximately an hour later._AF
