GREAT BAY--Member of Parliament Sjamira Roseburg says the recent election results in the Netherlands have given her a renewed sense of hope for the future of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, emphasizing the potential for a more equal, transparent, and collaborative relationship between all parts of the Kingdom.

“The recent election results in the Netherlands have given me a renewed sense of hope. With D66’s vision and program, I believe the Kingdom of the Netherlands can take meaningful steps toward greater equality, understanding, and true partnership between all its parts,” MP Roseburg said.

She added, “But I say this with honesty: we are far from where we should be. Real equality and collaboration require ongoing effort, consistency, transparency, and mutual respect. Still, I am hopeful, because progress begins when we choose to keep the conversation alive and focus on what unites us rather than what divides us.”

MP Roseburg noted that what stands out most to her in D66’s program is “their clear commitment to bringing the Kingdom closer together, not further apart.”

“Their vision recognizes that the Kingdom’s strength lies in connection, in equality, dialogue, and shared responsibility,” she said.

“D66 has been vocal about ensuring that every Dutch citizen, wherever they live within the Kingdom, enjoys the same opportunities for education, healthcare, and wellbeing. They emphasize tackling structural inequalities, improving living standards, and advancing climate resilience, issues that directly impact our islands. Their approach reflects a respect for partnership rather than paternalism, and that gives me hope.”

She continued, “This kind of thinking doesn’t create distance; it builds bridges. It invites collaboration and fosters trust, which is exactly what the Kingdom needs today.”

MP Roseburg, who serves as Chair of the Committee for Kingdom Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations (CKAIR), said she looks forward to the upcoming Inter Expo in the Netherlands this December.

“As Chair of the CKAIR Committee, I look forward to the Inter Expo in the Netherlands this December, an important opportunity to connect with the new Tweede Kamer members and the incoming government. So that we can share our vision. This visit is more than just a formal meeting; it is a chance to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and continue shaping a Kingdom where equality is not just spoken about, but lived and felt by all.”

She stressed that, “Moments like these remind us that progress happens when dialogue replaces distance and cooperation replaces silence.”

“We are not there yet, but I remain focused on moving in the right direction. Until we are part of this system, I want to keep building, striving for a better Kingdom for all,” MP Roseburg said.

Concluding her statement, she reaffirmed her optimism: “And as I always say — Hoop doet leven.”
