The organizers of the Saint Martin / Sint Maarten Annual Regional Tradeshow SMART are elated to announce Mount Gay Rum will be the official SMART drink. Having a well known Caribbean Rum as main SMART brand further amplifies the regional reach of SMART as 27 countries have sent delegates.
This was announced today by the four organizing partners, L’Association des Hoteliers de Saint-Martin, the Saint-Martin Tourism Office, the Sint-Maarten Tourist Bureau and the Sint-Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association.
“How great it is to have the support of the world’s oldest rum as a sponsor of this great and important event for the island. International Liquors and Tobacco trading, the local distributor of Mount Gay rum is a long standing partner of the SHTA and we are delighted with the continued support ” said Wyb Meyer, director of the SHTA.
The brand fits the international but Caribbean atmosphere of SMART. The organizers are elated about a growing attendance, being one of the most internationally represented editions in the 17 year history of SMART. The event will now amongst others host visitors from Anguilla, Antigua, the Bahamas, Belgium, Bonaire, Canada, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, France, Guadeloupe, Italy, Montserrat, the Netherlands, Panama, Puerto-Rico, Saba, St. Barths, St. Eustatius, St. Martin, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Mount Gay’s roots can be traced back to the processing of Barbadian sugar cane three centuries ago (1703), making it the oldest rum and continually produced spirit in the world. Mount Gay Rum is the product of over 300 years of knowledge, experience and refinement applied to the process of making rum. Each of the brands rum’s complex flavors have been coaxed from natural Barbadian ingredients and the input of many generations of master blenders, distillers and rum drinkers.
Barbadian Mount Gay rum was the drink to make James Bond change his drinking habit. To the surprise of many Bond lovers, during Casino Royale (2006) his traditional “Vodka Martini Shaken not stirred” was exchanged for
"Large Mount Gay with Soda" – a feat many Caribbean still stand proud of.
The SMART Tradeshow will be held on 21st – 23rd of May at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort Casino & Spa. SMART is hosted annually by the two side of the island Sint Maarten/Saint Martin. The SMART event consists of three full days of masterclasses, workshops, festivities, mystery dinners, pre- scheduled appointment sessions and activities. SMART is where wholesalers and tour operators can meet face-to-face and conduct business with suppliers and vendors from the Northeastern Caribbean Tourism Industry. All of this of course while having a great Mount Gay Rum cocktail.
