GREAT BAY--Community leader and businessman Cloyd “Ohndae” Marlin is calling on the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) to urgently address what he describes as a dangerous and deteriorating section of Sucker Garden Road before a serious accident occurs.
Marlin, owner of Kreative Juices in Sucker Garden, said he drives the road daily and sees firsthand the risk it poses not only to himself, but also to his customers, residents, school buses, taxi drivers, tourists, scooter riders, and other motorists who depend on the roadway every day.
According to Marlin, a section of the road appears to be sinking, reportedly due to issues beneath the surface, causing vehicles to swerve or lose control as they pass over the affected area at speed.
“As a business owner operating in Sucker Garden, I drive Sucker Garden Road every day, and so do my customers who come to pick up from Kreative Juices,” Marlin said. “The condition of this road is deplorable. There is a section that is visibly sinking, and daily you can see vehicles speeding over it, swerving, or nearly losing control. This is a major accident waiting to happen.”
He said the danger is too serious to ignore and questioned why action often comes only after tragedy.
“Are we waiting for the worst to happen before this gets the attention it deserves?” Marlin asked. “This is one of the most heavily used roads on the island. School buses, tourists, residents, taxi drivers, and scooter riders all use this road daily. The risk is right there in plain sight.”
Marlin also said he cannot believe the issue is unknown to the authorities and claimed that a video of the hazardous conditions was already shared directly with the Minister.
“I cannot believe that VROMI is unaware of this situation,” he said. “I have proof that videos of the road were sent to the Minister, and it feels as though those warnings fell on deaf ears. The evidence is there, the danger is there, and the public should not have to wait until someone is seriously hurt for action to be taken.”
Speaking in his capacity as both a business owner and community leader, Marlin said he felt compelled to speak out because of the potential threat to public safety.
“As a community leader, I cannot stay quiet when there is a clear danger to the community,” he said. “I am making an urgent call to the Ministry of VROMI to fix this road now, before it is too late.”
Marlin is urging the ministry to assess the affected section of Sucker Garden Road without delay and carry out the necessary repairs to prevent what he believes could become a serious and avoidable incident.
