"Behind These Bars" campaign seeks to provide insight into the daily operations of the prison.

KRALENDIJK--The Judicial Institution of the Caribbean Netherlands (JICN) has launched a new communications campaign aimed at giving the public a better understanding of life and work inside the correctional facility.

The campaign, titled "Behind These Bars," seeks to provide insight into the daily operations of the institution and the efforts undertaken to prepare inmates for their eventual return to society.

During a recent media tour, JICN Director Peter Hengeveld and Acting Director Anna Domacasse explained that rehabilitation and reintegration do not begin at the end of a prison sentence, but from the very first day of detention.

According to JICN, its work extends beyond maintaining security. The institution focusses on providing structure, guidance, employment opportunities and personal development programmes designed to help inmates prepare for a successful return to the community.

Officials stressed that successful reintegration also requires personal responsibility. While JICN can provide support and opportunities, former inmates ultimately must make their own choices about how they move forward with their lives.

At the same time, the institution emphasised the important role played by the wider community. Former detainees eventually return to their families, workplaces and neighbourhoods, making it essential that they are given opportunities to rebuild their lives and regain their place in society.

Through the "Behind These Bars" campaign, JICN hopes to highlight aspects of prison life that often remain unseen by the public, including the daily work of correctional officers and other staff, professional guidance programmes, rehabilitation efforts and preparations for life after detention.

Over the coming months, the campaign will feature public service announcements, radio spots, videos, interviews and other media productions showcasing different facets of JICN's operations and mission.

JICN described the initiative as part of its ongoing commitment to transparency and public awareness. "Always alert. Always moving forward," the institution said.
