Until now, night MEDEVAC between the airports of Saint-Barthélemy and Grand Case was impossible, night landings in Grand Case being prohibited for security reasons.
For the same reasons, the medical teams sent on an EVASAN mission from Saint-Martin could not return until the next morning, making a second evacuation impossible.
This situation penalized the residents of the two islands in terms of health care. In accordance with the will expressed by Jean-François Carenco, Minister Delegate in charge of Overseas Territories during his visit in October 2022 with a view to improving the healthcare offer for residents of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, all State services concerned (prefecture, DGAC), the managers of the airports of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin as well as the Hospital Center have mobilized to create the conditions and procedures allowing night landings at the airport of Grand Case.
The device is now operational. It constitutes a reinforcement of the capacities of care by medical evacuations towards Guadeloupe or Martinique.
