GREAT BAY--Chairperson of Parliament MP Sarah Wescot-Williams is encouraging Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff and faction members to complete a newly launched survey aimed at measuring the level of digital and artificial intelligence literacy within Parliament.

Wescot-Williams said the survey forms part of the work of Parliament's recently established Workgroup for Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence, a mixed parliamentary group tasked with advancing Parliament's readiness in the areas of AI and digital transformation.

QR codes have been placed throughout the Parliament building, allowing persons working within the institution to access and complete the short survey.

According to Wescot-Williams, the purpose of the exercise is to establish a baseline of the skills, experience and level of knowledge already present within Parliament.

"The survey by the workgroup is to establish the level of literacy amongst all persons here in Parliament, members, staff and faction members, in order for us then to design a program suitable to Parliament based on the needs, the skills and the experiences that we already have in Parliament," Wescot-Williams said.

She explained that the information gathered will help the workgroup determine the specific requirements of the institution while also identifying existing skills that can be incorporated into a wider digital transformation and AI development program.

Wescot-Williams encouraged participants to complete the survey as soon as possible so that the findings can be returned to the workgroup and used to guide the next phase of the initiative.

She said similar baseline assessments are important for understanding the needs and existing capabilities within organizations before a development program is designed.

The Chairperson expressed the hope that Parliament can move quickly in strengthening its capacity and positioning itself ahead in the adoption and responsible use of AI and digital tools.

"As far as Parliament is concerned, we can put the program together that will see Parliament, I hope, shoot ahead of the rest, so to speak, where AI and digital transformation are concerned," Wescot-Williams said.

The Workgroup for Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence is expected to use the results of the survey to help shape a program tailored to Parliament's needs, existing expertise and future objectives.
