What if the story of Saint-Martin was experienced rather than told? That's the premise of 'Forbidden Love', an immersive show to discover this Saturday, July 18th at 18:30 pm at the Heritage Village.

Opened in late 2025 in Colombier, the Heritage Village was born from the will of the sisters Hélène Richardson Hanson and Ghislaine Richardson of preserve and transmit the cultural heritage of Saint-Martin. Supported by the association The Heritage and Ancestral Trails of Colombier, the site highlights the traditions, skills and characters that have shaped the area.

After the success of his first show 'Love in Spring Garden'The Heritage Village of Colombier continues its mission with this second nighttime show, complemented by a gourmet interlude. The experience comes to life at the foot of the Colombier hills with a guided walk punctuated by stopsVisitors discover, among other things, the emblematic figures of the community, ancient traditions, trades of yesteryear, and the remains of an old cemetery, before taking the twenty-six steps symbolizing the slaves having fled the plantation towards freedom.

Heritage as an experience

At the top, the Heritage Village is revealed, where 'Forbidden Love' begins. The play tells the story of Joseph Miller, a man born in Africa, deported to Saint-Martin and enslaved, who falls in love despite the prohibitions imposed by the slave system. Between dialogues, original songs, period costumes and scenes inspired by daily life on plantationsThe show movingly evokes hope, resistance, and the quest for freedom on the eve of abolition. Some dialogues are even performed in Wolof in order to recall the origins of many slaves deported from Senegal.

Conceived and directed by Clara Reyes, the site's artistic director, this creation is part of a broader programming designed to bring local history to life. Guided tours are offered during the day and a 3rd showThis time aimed at young audiences, a new project is already in preparation. Far from traditional visits, the Heritage Village proves that heritage can also be heard, explored, and felt. A resounding success!. _Vx
