PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — The Sint Maarten Soccer Educational Foundation (SMSEF) kicks off their 24th, Annual Interscholastic Soccer Tournament on Saturday January 30th, 2016.

As it has become customary, the neighborhood of Belvedere will be welcoming students from all over the Dutch side as their schools compete against each other on the Johan Cruijff Court.

This year’s focus as it was last year’s, we will once again emphasize the development of primary school soccer on Sint Maarten. The tournament, which is sponsored by the TelEM Group of Companies, will last from January 30th, through May 28th, 2016.

Once again the students will be competing for monetary prizes for their schools, as well as trophies and medallions. First, second and third place in every age group will receive, NAf. 500, NAf. 300 and NAf. 200.

The highest monetary earning school in last year’s tournament was the Leonald Conner School.

So far a total of 26 teams have registered for the tournament.  More teams are expected to register during the final preparation meeting, at which time the registration will be closed.

The Sint Maarten Soccer Educational Foundation would like to wish all schools an injury-free tournament.
