PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The management of Rio Productions officially announced that the international Soca band from St. Kitts “Small Axe Band”, will also be performing during the 5th annual Rio Lighting Up de Road parade that will take place in Philipsburg on April 9th 2016.

Small Axe Band (a.k.a. the sweetest band in the world) was established and 1980 in St. Kitts and is known for their energetic style of jamming, and as no other they can turn the crowed up during carnival parades. While they have played in the past for Rio’s Lighted parade, they have been chosen as a band which can go up against the road music of the Fantastic Four (former Burning Flames) that also will be performing that night. “Two famous Caribbean bands will be jamming on the road that night for the people of St. Maarten, it is really something to look forward to” – was outlined by Rio Management.

The Lightin’ Up de Road Parade has become a significant part of the carnival schedule and is the unofficial kick off to opening of the carnival season in St. Maarten. It’s a social and cultural event that truly brings joy to the people, and Rio Productions remains committed to provide a safe environment where revelers can enjoy true Caribbean music as they parade in lighted t-shirts and costumes through the streets of the Philipsburg showcasing our culture.
