GEBE: Country-wide power restored by 2.49PM on Tuesday

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – On Tuesday, November 8, 2015, at approximately 10:00am NV GEBE experienced an issue with the water cooling system that led to an island wide outage, NV GEBE’s first in over thirteen (13) months.

Restoration was completed at approximately 2:49pm after technicians worked diligently, and remedied the problem which was necessary for all affected areas to receive electricity supply.

NV GEBE would like to inform its customers that the outages that occurred on Sunday/Monday and Tuesday are of a different nature.

On Sunday and Monday there was load shedding which lasted a maximum of one and half hours per affected areas.

An island wide outage is undetermined until we have the cause of the fault.  Once this is located and restored then NV GEBE is able to restart its generators and thereafter energize the cables.  For this reason an island wide outage can run you up to three to four hours before all areas are restored.

We do understand that this is an unacceptable situation, however this was out of our control. NV GEBE therefore apologizes to its customers once again for any inconveniences caused by this incident.
