Harbour View – On December 14, 2015, His Excellency the Governor of Sint Maarten, drs. E.B. Holiday, received a draft national decree from Prime-Minister William Marlin regulating the amendment of the decree of October 29, 2015 to dissolve Parliament and call elections.

The Governor after evaluation of the draft national decree signed the national decree which calls for

  • Postulation on August 8, 2016,
  • Early elections on Monday, September 26, 2016, and the
  • Dissolution of Parliament on Monday, October 31, 2016.

The decree enters into force immediately.

As a result there can be no further discussion as to whether early elections will be held on September 26, 2016.

Going forward Governor Holiday hopes that this offers a balanced and sustainable resolution to the current differences of opinion and appeals to the members of Parliament, Government, and public to join forces and work to address the challenges our country faces aimed at serving the interest of the people of Sint Maarten.
