PHILIPSBURG – Many students feel overwhelmed when they have to apply to colleges or universities.
The Student Support Services Division (SSSD) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs is aiming to make this process less cumbersome for students by offering a free workshop entitled: “Applying to schools in the USA and Canada” on Thursday, September 1.
This workshop will be held at the University of St. Martin (USM) from 5:00pm-6:00pm.
Students in their last two years of secondary school or recent graduates who are interested in studying in the United States of America (USA) or Canada are invited to attend this free and interactive workshop.
Simple matters like, if required documents are not submitted in a timely manner to the schools then students may not be considered for acceptance and it can delay the start time of further studies, say SSSD officials.
The aim is for workshop participants to learn the various steps in applying to schools and what factors to keep in mind when considering schools to apply to. Parents are also urged to encourage their children to attend since this is beneficial to them.
A similar workshop for students planning to study in the Netherlands is scheduled to be held on September 8.
The office of SSSD is located in the Amigo Building, across from the Police Station and next to the Windward Islands Bank (WIB) in Philipsburg. Seating is limited, therefore students are encouraged to contact the SSSD to reserve a seat, by calling: 543-1235. Students are encouraged to be on time.
